I don’t know if any of you watched the Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall fat fight program on BBC 1 recently?
I found it a very interesting watch. I was contacted by a lady called Laura who wrote ‘
I am looking for your support in a new venture across the county in order to improve the health and well being of all living in Cornwall.
Following the BBC’s recent documentary “Britain’s Fat Fight” I began to look at the National statistics for diabetes and obesity across the region. I must admit that I was shocked to discover that both are on the rise in the south west.
As a local nurse, I see the implications that both of these health problems have on peoples lives as well as the local health resources. Especially as 10 per cent of hospital admissions each year are as a result of complications relating to both diabetes and obesity. This puts tremendous amounts of strain on an already stretched NHS. This potentially could be avoided.
Therefore, I really want to encourage people to change their life styles through a similar campaign to #NewcastleCan as seen on the TV show.
I really would like to implement a similar program called Cornwall Can. Aiming to work with local groups, communities, businesses, schools; basically everyone to change the way we think and move. Whilst at the same time encourage all to take responsibility for their own health.’
She has a facebook and Instagram page with the #Cornwallcan. Definitely worth a follow for this great initiative.
