The Importance of Hydration, great article from @EBC

Water has many uses in our lives. It is a necessary nutrient essential for life itself. You can live for day’s maybe even weeks without food, but in as little as 1-day life can cease without water. Not difficult to understand when you consider the human body consists of between 50-75% water. It is vital we stay hydrated, as the human body requires adequate amounts of water for….

1. The organ’s to function properly
2. Absorption
3. Excretion
4. Circulation
5. Digestion
6. It is a medium for all chemical change within the human body

Water is to the human body what oil is to a car…. Would you contemplate running your car without oil? The average adult requires about 2-3 liters of water a day; need will naturally increase for people who are more active. Some more key points to remember when considering water intake are

• Water flushes out the toxins in our bodies, which if they accumulate can cause dehydration, which in turn causes tension, aches, pains, & headaches.

• Water helps keep our joints well oiled, helping prevent joint disease such as arthritis in later life.

• Water helps your gut work more efficiently, helping prevent constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, & many other related diseases.

• Water hydrates your skin. Drinking enough water can combat skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, wrinkles & spots.

If you have 4-5% less than the recommended daily amount of water, it can affect your mental & physical performance by up to 20-30% a massive difference.

A widespread mistake among individuals that train on a regular basis is to confuse hunger with the need to rehydrate. Many people eat when they should be drinking water to replenish lost fluids. It is possible to drink too much water (Hyper hydration) although this is very rare for active adults.

If you drink water when you are feeling thirsty then you are already dehydrated, your best bet is to sip water steadily through the day.

Remember ladies 2-3 litres and for gents 3-4 litres of water per day!
