So this month I have set a challenge for my PT and bootcamp clients to complete a walking challenge. Most of us unfortunately now have a smartphone, but the vast majority have a health app on them that will track your daily steps.
I realized that after we had to put our lovely dog to sleep that my daily step count was dramatically reduced. Before that it wasnt something I thought about, Luna always wanted to go for a run or a walk and I used to enjoy the time.Since she has gone I no longer made the time to go for ‘just a walk’ yet this was always such a good release. So its as much a challenge for them as it is for me.
The challenge is to average 6,000 steps per day which roughly equates to 3 miles per day.The Govt recommended figure is 10,000 roughly 5 miles.Even if you were to start with just 10 minutes per day this would start to have a positive effect on your health and general wellbeing.

Make it a habit
The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit. Think of ways to include walking in your daily routine.
Examples include:
- walking part of your journey to work
- walking to the shops
- using the stairs instead of the lift
- leaving the car behind for short journeys
- walking the kids to school
- doing a regular walk with a friend
- going for a stroll with family or friends after dinner
